Billing

For the most part, our fees are based on the time required to handle a matter. Fees can be adjusted depending on the difficulty or novelty of the questions involved, the expertise required, the amount at risk, the results obtained, time limits imposed by the circumstances or the client and the experience, reputation or ability of the attorney or attorneys performing the service.

The vast majority of our insurance defense work is done on the basis of an agreed-upon hourly rate. A copy of our hourly rate schedule is available at any time upon request. Some matters are handled pursuant to a flat fee arrangement. Matters requiring travel outside of Chittenden, Washington and Franklin Counties can include reduced travel rates, if agreed upon beforehand.
We also handle some cases on a contingency fee basis. In those cases, if we are not successful in getting money for our client, we do not take a fee, only our expenses. We work hard for our clients to maximize their recovery.

The preparation of wills and trusts and Medicaid planning are handled on a flat fee basis. Probate and trust administration work is performed on an hourly basis.

Our computerized billing provides our clients with the level of itemization appropriate to the task and the matter. We are equipped to bill on-line and can provide electronic copies of bills upon request.
